Steve Guynes is a Regents Professor of Information Technology in the College of Business Administration at the University of North Texas. Dr. Guynes received his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University. He teaches courses in visual methodologies, database administration, web design, and legacy systems. He currently serves as a course coordinator for the ITDS department. He is very active in service activities for his department, such as chairing the department personnel affairs committee and the department promotion and tenure committee. Dr Guynes is an outstanding teacher having won numerous teaching awards including the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Council of Business Students, the UNT Metamorphosis Award from the program for graduating University of North Texas women, and numerous Mortar Board Senior Honor Society Top Prof and apple polishing awards. Dr. Guynes is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society for collegiate schools of business. Dr. Guynes' has published over 60 journal articles and two textbooks. His research has been published in several distinguished journals, including Communications of the ACM, Information and Management, Journal of Database Management, and Information Systems Management. His work has also appeared in numerous practitioner oriented publications such as the Journal of Systems Management, Computers and Security, Journal of Accountancy, Personnel Journal, CPA Journal, and Data Quality. Dr. Guynes has presented numerous papers at both national and regional meetings, and is a past national coordinator for the MIS group of DSI. In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Guynes has done extensive consulting with prestigious firms such as Standard Oil, Chase Manhattan, Wells Fargo, and Wachovia Bank. He has developed and taught IT programs for the IRS, Customs, and HUD. Dr. Guynes served as an expert witness in the first criminal case ever tried dealing with the valuation of computer software packages in tax shelters. It is considered a "landmark case" that set the precedent for other software valuation cases. The B. D. Morgan & Co. Inc. et al, v. Commissioner, Docket No. 16246-85 court case tried in Federal Tax Court in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 11, 1986.
