Congratulations to the CSE Cyber Defense Team on their third place finish in the Southwest Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC), on March 8 and 9 in San Antonio, TX. Computer Science and Engineering Cyber Defense Team passed the qualifying round on February 1 and became one of only four teams to compete in the Southwest Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC), on March 8 and 9 in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Mahadevan Gomathisankaran is the faculty mentor for the team.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, in collaboration with the National Convergence Technology Center at Collin College, will host the 2nd SoMiC Workshop: Security on the Move and in the Clouds on April 5, 2013 at UNT’s Discovery Park campus. The Keynote speech at 8:30 will be given by Bhavani Thuraisingham of UTD. More program information is here. The Cyber Defense Team from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has passed the qualifying round and will compete in the Southwest Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) on March 9 and 10 in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Ram Dantu, Director of the Center For Information and Computer Security (CICS) and Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been informed that the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security have designated the University of North Texas as a National Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research (CAE-R) for the academic years 2012 through 2017. CICS is ranked as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE-IAE) from 2012-2017.

Workshop: Security on the Move and in the Clouds was held at UNT's Discovery Park on April, 9, 2012. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, in collaboration with the Convergence Technology Center at Collin College, hosted a workshop on Security issues related to mobile device platforms and applications, Social Media and the Cloud.

The UNT Department of Computer Science and Engineering's Center for Information and Computer Security (CICS) has helped the City of Denton to be recognized as one of the top 10 best data security cities in the country. Dr. Ram Dantu is the Director of this CSE Center. The 2009 Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition was held at Texas A&M College Station this year. It is a three day competition whereby teams defend various software and hardware against a RED TEAM attack. This year UNT brought a team of six people, two graduates and four undergraduates to participate. There were eight teams total at Texas A&M this year.
